Description
Country of manufacture: Sweden
Era: 1970s
Manufacturer: Kosta
Designer: Göran Wärff
Size: Approximately 24 x 14 cm
Condition: Unused (with original box)
This is a long, narrow plate used for serving herring.
There was one fish at the bottom.
It is in relief.
Each and every scale,
Even the veins on the dorsal fin are carved into the mold.
Looking down from above,
It looks like the fish is sinking to the bottom of the plate.
Because it is glass made using a mold,
The edges are slightly warped.
The thickness is not uniform.
The series is called "Kosta Party".
1970s,
This is a collection of dishes made for the Swedish dinner table.
So that you can see at a glance what you're putting in it.
The ingredients are carved into the bottom of the plate.
That was the concept behind the series.
Still in its original box,
This is a photo that has remained unused.
The picture on the box shows herring, onion, and bay leaf.
Pickled fish, of course,
For use as a plate for arranging appetizers.
You can also leave some sweets there.
Göran Wärff (1933–2022)
Born on the island of Gotland,
He studied architecture and crafts in Germany and painting in London.
I encountered glass while visiting Pukeberg for training.
He became a designer at that workshop in 1958.
In 1964, I moved to Kosta.
Enclosing colors within transparent glass,
This job is known for its ability to change expression depending on the viewing angle.
He also created the baptismal fonts for the Sydney Opera House and the cathedral.
Kosta was founded in 1742.
The oldest glass workshop in Sweden.
It's a name formed by combining the surnames of the two officers.
