From the relaxed torso,
Her slender neck stretched straight out,
It is slightly open at the corners of the mouth.

The skin of the torso was cloudy white like frosted glass.
Several blue, thread-like lines run diagonally across it.
Rather than drawing,
It has the appearance of having left a trail of flight.

In stark contrast to its body, its neck was a translucent sky blue.
When held up to the light, only that part reveals the other side.

Bertil Vallien (born 1938)
He is a leading glass artist from Sweden.
I studied in Stockholm.
After spending several years in the United States and Mexico,
I joined the Åfors glass workshop in 1963.

Using the "sand casting" method, in which molten glass is poured into a sand mold,
He left behind many sculptures in the shape of boats.
Inside the thick glass,
A collection of works in which small human figures and tools are trapped.
It's visible, yet out of reach.
That distance is at the heart of his work.
