Los Reyes Cup & Saucer, Peru 1980s
¥12,100This is one of a series of pieces created in 20th-century Lima workshops as tourist souvenirs, featuring line drawings found on Nazca and Moche pottery.
Although there are no detailed records of the artist or workshop, these pieces were likely scattered around the world, mixed in with travelers' luggage, in the workshop districts of Miraflores and Barranco. The marks of the potter's wheel, the variations in glaze density, the wavering of the lines—even though they are mass-produced, each piece retains the unique characteristics of human hands. There is a handwritten signature on the back that reads "Los Reyes / Lima, Peru". It is the perfect size for drinking coffee. As shown in the fourth photo, there is a chip on the bottom of the cup.
